Exons:
Bits of information for using the MUSC Shared Resource,
the BioMolecular Computing Resource (BCR).

Exon_26 Using SEQWEB 3.1 at MUSC.

1) Netscape, IE,Safari and Firefox all seem to work with version 3.1 of SeqWeb.

2) The SEQWEB interface will present a popup window asking for
your user name and password. The very first time you login,
use your regular UNIX user name. Do NOT enter your unix
   paswword this first time!

The system will then let you in.

When the SEQWEB window is loaded click on the preferences
link at the bottom of the main frame. There you will find
an option for changing your password. In this case you
will be adding your password to the SEQWEB user list ONLY.
You will not be changing your main UNIX password.

You will need to enter your password and then re-enter
   the same password to confirm.

Next SEQWEB will whine that you are not authorized. Just
enter your regular user name and the password you have
recently changed and then the system will let you in.

Thereafter use your regular account name AND password
   to get in to SEQWEB.

I recommend you use your UNIX password for SEQWEB to avoid
having too many passwords but suit yourself.

If you change your UNIX password, it WILL NOT change the
SEQWEB password and vice versa. YOU will be resposible
for keeping both passwords the same.

3) On the left frame there are a series of links called managers.

4) The Programs link allows you to scroll down and select a given program.

5) The Managers link allows you access to the managers. The mangers are described in Help Topics window.

6) The SEQWEB program works with sequences that are stored in a place
which is separate from your HOMEROOM directory. That means you will
have to load sequences into the SEQWEB workspace either by retrieving
them from a database via SEQWEB, by COPYING them from your
HOMEROOM to the SEQWEB or by pasting them from a clipboard. See the
   INTRODUCTION for details.

7) The HELP section resides under the Help Topics link at the upper right
   of the SEQWEB page.
