Exons: Bits of information for using the MUSC Shared Resource, the BioMolecular Computing Resource (BCR). Exon_52 Running Look/GeneMine to make homology models of proteins and automatically annotate sequences at MUSC.MUSC users with access to Xserver software on their PC/MACs may configure their MUSC network accounts to run MAG's Look/GeneMine program. STANDARD telnet connections to the BCR machines will not allow access to LOOK/GENEMINE. You must use Xserver software such as MIx, MAC-X, eXceed or eXodus. XLOOK reads sequence information (eg SwissProt FT lines) and starts an automated bioinformatic workup of the sequence. The program will then produce alignments and launch routines to create 3D coordinates of a homology model of the query sequence to a suitable template. Finally images may be produced in a POSTSCRIPT format file which may be edited or printed. Users will have to add the following line to their .cshrc file: alias xlook /usr/common/bcr/look3/xlook After adding the above line to ".cshrc", logout and login again. At that point typing "xlook" will launch the program. The manual and a brief tutorial are available within under the help button.
